Guy Fawkes 10 (report below)
Andie, Jane and myself (Russ Hartley) headed off in torrential rain on Sunday morning to Ripley to run the Guy Fawkes 10 mile race. The wind picked up and armed with bin bags and hats we tried to stay dry before the race began at 10:30 - unsuccessfully! At one stage Andie said that she preferred being inside a portaloo to being outside! Race eventually began at 10:40am - we had to wait for the number 22 bus to come past first!
Steady progress through the castle and narrow trails for 2 miles until the field spread out a bit and then I saw a sign for The Birstwith Brute! Now any race that actually has a name for a hill must take it seriously - 1 mile of 45 degree ascent later I could see why! Field now well spread out and running steady with the rain now easing off slightly until we hit the next hill - nothing like the brute though!
Heading back to the finish in the castle forecourt - a welcome sight. Nice goody bag with plenty of Nestle product (race sponsors) and a decent sweatshirt. I finished in 1:32, Jane 1:40 and Andie 1:45 but the race was about much more than times. Great race/route - better weather next time please

Jo Wood goes Race crazy after Woodland Challenge 2009
Jo has discovered a race that looks like it might be worth exploring next year so in her own words here is her acocunt of the Woodland Challenge, Sunday 11 October 2009.
Just to let you know that yesterday's race was the hardest 10k I have ever done yet the best! It was so well organised by Stadium Runners, two laps of hard Woodland undulating all the way with a very steep hill of death in the middle! The course was taped all the way through the woods with Marshalls everywhere shouting encouragement, never seen so many they were fantastic and running through the woods they had panpipe music playing theme tune from Chariots of Fire really loud, was fab, then coming through the start/finish to do your second lap there was a brass band playing!!!
I was just behind Dr Ron Hill for the first half of the race then lost him!!! Definitely one to do next year but it fills up fast because there are only 250 places. There were loads of really good spot prizes winning things like garmins, exercise bikes and Wii's!!! The goody bags were the best ever filled with stuff and I have a really fab new yellow reflective size 10 femine cut running top so all in all a top day. My boyfriend Graham was the race referee and was there at the end with a big kiss n cuddle for me and then treated me to a lovely Sunday lunch afterwards!
My legs are aching today but I've got the race fever!!! Can't wait until my next race!!!
Jo

Epilepsy Action Bradford 10k, 29 March 2009
By Kevin O’Hara
Went to do some coat holding/support at the Bradford 10k last Sunday morning where my mate Tori braved very cold but otherwise ideal conditions to run very strongly finishing a superb 7th Lady overall out of almost 1000 starters on what was classed a 'fast and flat', out and back course. What they forgot to mention was a couple of short, very testing climbs which made it, I suppose, a little slower than the Abbey Dash. On the plus side it was very well organised, traffic free and the proceeds going to a very deserving charity. So come on you marathoners improve your leg speed and get entering these 10k races!
